Around 180 kms from Melbourne on the Great Ocean Road is the popular seaside resort of Apollo Bay. It is nestled in the the foothills of the Otway Ranges . The local population is around 2,000 which swells with incoming visitors.
The town has a crescent shaped sandy beach, great for swimming with a magnificent backdrop of the green Otway hills. In the nearby ranges you can visit waterfalls, national and state parks and abundant wildlife.
Beautiful clear water offers ample opportunity for swimming, the adventurous can sea kayak with local seals, try deep-sea fishing, take surfing lessons or a breath-taking horse ride along the beach at sunset.
The local fishing fleet moors behind a huge breakwater and its daily catch is available from the fishermen's co-operative at the pier entrance. A walk along the pier offers stacks of craypots, and the opportunity to watch the fishermen making ready for another trip out to sea.

Apollo Bay is part of the Great Ocean Road
World reknowned for its scenic drives aound the magnificent coastline of Victoria's south-west. The road runs 300 kilometres from the surfside town of Torquay, just south of Geelong through to Peterborough which is just east of Warrnambool. A winding road that takes you along cliff tops and breathtaking headlands, down to the edge of the beaches and across river estuaries and lush rainforests with beautiful scenery at every turn.
Sure Apollo Bay is a fair drive around the Great Ocean Road (or you can go inland) but it is well worth it. Not only have you got fantastic sea views but the Otway Ranges are your backdrop. Even better it's not as crowded as some of the closer destinations.
