Castlemaine is one of those few places that has tastefully retained the look of the town.  The IGA supermarket was incorporated into the original building, as was the Castlemaine Visitor Centre and the Empyre Hotel.  All have retained their original look.  Even some of the new buildings look like they were built a hundred years ago.  This is a great time of year to explore historical Castlemaine and all it has to offer.

Castlemaine offers a vibrant country town with every modern convienience. Castlemaine maintains its beautiful heritage buildings while offering a contempory lifestyle with movies, theatres, supermarkets, cafes, restaurants and shops galore. The Castlemaine Gaol is now a venue for visitors offering food, accommodation, conferencing and even weddings.

Bed and Breakfast accommodation (including Guesthouse accommodation) was traditionally for hosted accommodation offering one or several rooms with or without an ensuite and a hot breakfast the next morning.  In recent years the lines have blurred as many places not offering breakfast or leaving a ingredients for you to cook yourself are calling themselves Bed and Breakfast.  In our view a Bed and Breakfast should be hosted and should provide a cooked breakfast. It would pay to ask what you are getting before you book.
