Daylesford is a little over an hour from Victoria's capital in the Central Highlands.  The region is known as spa country as over 70% of Victoria's mineral water comes from this area.  Daylesford is a haven for massage, spa and indulgence.  Daylesford and Hepburn Springs are reputed to have more massage and beauty therapists in one location than anywhere else in Australia.

Daylesford has two Lakes (full even in the height of the drought), the Daylesford Lake and Lake Jubilee.  Both offer picnic facilities and paddleboats or canoes if you like boat.  Due to the depth and cold waters they are unsuitable for swimming.

Attractions include the Convent Gallery, Lavandula and the Wombat Hill Park.  Daylesford offers luxurious dining with views of the lake, specialty shops galore and accommodation from budget to luxury.  It is a suitable destination all year round and a great spot for day tripping.

Daylesford is a great alternative to going to the beach on a warm day.  The region has an olympic size swimming pool, two lakes full to the brim with boat hire available, and nearly all accommodation is air-conditioned.  Try a Daylesford restaurant or sip on a crisp wine under a shady verandah.  Don't forget the Day Spas, the better ones are fully air-conditioned as well, so you can still enjoy a massage and hot spa.   Beat the crowds and the heat and head to Daylesford and Hepburn Springs.

Lets be honest, if you don't like Daylesford you're just too hard to please.  Like most rural communities Daylesford is in the grip of the drought.  Fortunately recent heavy rain has given the town back it's normal hint of green and both lakes are still full.  Good news too, the mineral water is still flowing.

Daylesford is part of the Victorian Goldfields
The Victorian Goldfields are the legacy from the discovery of gold in Victoria's central region in the 1800s.  It is an area rich in history with much of the past wealth on display especially in the Victorian streetscapes of Bendigo and Ballarat.  The great hotels and public buildings show off the past wealth of these rural cities.  There are still many original shopfronts and miners' cottages in townships such as Maldon, Castlemaine and Dunolly. The Victorian Goldfields are a great way to explore our gold rush history.  There are still several mines to explore including Sovereign Hill and the Central Deborah Gold Mine, as well as learning from the Eureka Centre and the Ballarat Gold Museum.
