Maldon is like stepping 100 years into the past. Very few towns have kept their historic look and feel as well as Maldon has. In fact it was the first Victorian town to be classified by the National Trust. Wide verandahs, large shade trees, flagstone paving and original style shop fronts provide a steetscape that will make you feel like you are walking through the past.

Yabbie pies are the specialty of this town so take some time out to sit down and enjoy, as they are a rare treat. Cafes, restaurants and pubs to sate your appetite, specialty shops for gifts, boiled lollies or old fashioned toys, and bakeries for treats both sweet and savoury.

There's even a horse and buggy for tours about the town. Take the rare opportunity to stay and eat in a town that offers beauty unspoilt by rampant commercialism, gives country hospitality and still offers everything you need to relax and feel pampered.

Maldon is one of those few towns that hasn't been destroyed by development or commercialism. Maldon is an impressive town that offers the opportunity to experience a heritage town as close to original as possible in a modern world.  This is not a heritage town offering people in original costume but rather a town with a heritage that it has embraced where it  came from and how it looked.  Maldon looks like it could have 100 years ago yet offers great modern cafes, accommodation, a supermarket and much more.  Explore Maldon now.

Maldon is part of the Victorian Goldfields
The Victorian Goldfields are the legacy from the discovery of gold in Victoria's central region in the 1800s.  It is an area rich in history with much of the past wealth on display especially in the Victorian streetscapes of Bendigo and Ballarat.  The great hotels and public buildings show off the past wealth of these rural cities.  There are still many original shopfronts and miners' cottages in townships such as Maldon, Castlemaine and Dunolly. The Victorian Goldfields are a great way to explore our gold rush history.  There are still several mines to explore including Sovereign Hill and the Central Deborah Gold Mine, as well as learning from the Eureka Centre and the Ballarat Gold Museum.
