Port Fairy is probably most famous nowadays for the "Port Fairy Folk Festival" held every year in March. The township is around 28 kms west of Warrnambool on what is called the "Shipwreck Coast". Fortunately due to little economic development after 1900 the old word character has remained leaving many of the old buildings in original condition.
Port Fairy offers a rich variety of nineteenth century buildings including churches, banks, public buildings, hotels, shops and private dwellings. To take in the beauty of this town a relaxed attitude and a comfortable pair of walking shoes are a must. While strolling visit the harbour on the Moyne River where the local fishing fleet shelters.
