I had an older friend when I was younger who had every vacation at Warrnambool. He called it "Warrnambool by the Sea" and his descriptions of the place were quite magical. It wasn't until many years later on my first visit to Warrnambool that I began to understand why. To start with a huge playground for both children and adults (that I just did not want to leave) and an early Australian port that you can fully explore with real boats. This place really is magical - lucky I never grew up either. |

Warrnambool is around 270 kms from Melbourne travelling along the Great Ocean Road . It has a population around 30, 000 and is the only city on the Shipwreck Coast . Warrnambool is Victoria's southern right whale nursery with the visiting whales seen at Logan's Beach every May to October sometimes seen only 100 metres off the shore. With a proud history of seafaring, Warrnambool puts it on show at the Flagstaff Hill Maritime Museum. |
Caravan Park and Camping Ground offers accommodation for those seeking reasonable priced accommodation in a communal setting. Also known as Holiday Parks, Caravan Parks can offer sites in both powered and un-powered as well as cabins through to luxury units. Most Caravan Parks offer playgrounds for children and usually a swimming pool. Shared toilet and shower amenities are the usually but it is not difficult to find ensuite facilities if you want them. Caravan and Holiday Parks are a cheap alternative accommodation with the added bonus of being with others. |
